Alright, so I haven’t posted anything in the last few weeks. Sorry about that.
Part of this is my work schedule. Summer RST kicked in early and hard, and because of COVID the powers that be have been dispersing courses all over the Province to reduce risk. This has had the effect of turning me into a kind of ‘Journeyman Sergeant’ as I travel from one place to another to teach. It’s been an experience, that’s for sure, but the lack of a regular schedule has made it hard to get writing done on a regular schedule.
Then my laptop decided it didn’t want to work with WordPress for some reason.
I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m the kind of person who hates throwing out something if it’s still useful. I’d rather fix something than get a new one. To wit, I’ve been writing this laptop on an aged MacBook Pro I got in 2009. While it’s far past being what you’d call a high-performance instrument, my old MacBook was good enough for what I needed, so other than upgrading its memory, I hadn’t felt the urge to do much else with it.
Over the last two years or so, I’ve slowly been losing capabilities. Steam no longer supports my operating system, my version of Safari won’t access YouTube so I had to download Firefox which wouldn’t access Netflix, and so on. I was fine with this. There’s a grand Canadian Armed Forces tradition of jury-rigging and carrying on, but this latest failure might be beyond even my abilities.
I’m writing this particular post on my phone as I try to figure out what my next step will be. Best case scenario I won’t be able to afford a new laptop for a month or so. At least, not the kind of laptop I want to get (a cheap, temporary replacement is NOT an option here). Before my laptop quit, I had some fairly detailed drafts saved on the blog, so I might be able to get some posts up using my phone. But for now things are going to be a bit strained.
So that’s where I am right now. Everything’s fine in my life, I’m just facing some new challenges when it comes to blogging. Hopefully I’ll be back up and running soon, but in the meantime please be patient.
